OPENINGS

Hardcore pastry fans were deflated after Nicole Rucker closed her restaurant Fiona on Fairfax last year, but she has now opened a new pie shop called Fat & Flour in downtown’s Grand Central Market. A tempting array of treats are offered Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. (or until things sell out). Look for the cult faves – Key lime and chocolate chess pies – as well as rhubarb cherry, chocolate peppermint, buttermilk berry and honey pies. Broseph's Restaurant Group (BRG) has transformed the former space of Brick + Mortar in Santa Monica into Tipsy Chef, offering California-inspired cuisine in an industrial-styled space. Tipsy Chef, 2435 Main St., Santa Monica, CA 90405, 310-450-3434.
 
Sōgo Roll Bar adds another sushi spot to Los Feliz. It comes from the Sushi Note team headed by chef Kiminobu Saito and Dustin Lancaster and Sarah Dietz. Intimate, airy digs feature a long, blond wooden sushi bar as well as patio seating. Look for specialty seasonal hand rolls and limited sashimi ranging from snapper, salmon and toro, to albacore kari kari, crab and lobster. Cut rolls are available for takeout. Chef Luke Reyes has opened 9th St. Ramen in DTLA. Look for appetizers like fresh handmade gyoza and karaage fried chicken as well as a spicy tuna donburi rice bowl. Signature ramen, made from toasted wheat and rye flour, ranges from traditional pork tonkotsu to spicy lamb ramen, black ramen double soup, and vegan charred onion and mushroom ramen with pickled seasonal vegetables. 9th St. Ramen, 111 W. 9th St., Los Angeles, CA 90015, 323-540-9430.
 
Hot LA eatery Howlin’ Ray's is expanding with an outpost in Pasadena. The new larger store on South Arroyo Parkway will hopefully ease any lines and hours-long wait for the famously beloved spicy fried chicken. Howlin' Ray's Pasadena, 800 S. Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena, CA 91105, no phone.
 
Italian chef Massimo Bottura has opened Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura Italian chef Massimo Bottura has opened Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Beverly Hills. This is Gucci’s first U.S. restaurant, and Bottura’s second Gucci Osteria (the first is in Florence). Perched on the roof of Gucci’s Beverly Hills flagship store, the restaurant offers a luxe terrace that overlooks Rodeo Drive, and interiors featuring red velvet banquettes, Gucci Décor wallpaper and marble tables.
