OPENINGS

In Hollywood, the former Las Palmas restaurant (after a stint as the hipster club LAX) will be opening again as Las Palmas on May 12. The menu will offer traditional Mexican favorites, and an al fresco taco stand at the entrance will be dishing until 3 a.m.
 
The Natural History Museum in Exposition Park has opened its roaring new T-Rex Café, offering fast packaged items---sandwiches like roast beef with horseradish mayo and various salads, as well as soup of the day---and a variety of beverages, snacks and ice cream. It's open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekdays, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends. Lunch Daily.
 
The Lark Creek Restaurant Group, which operates The Tavern at Lark Creek in Northern California and Bradley Ogden in Las Vegas among other restaurants, has opened its first restaurant in Los Angeles. Moreton Fig is located in the new Ronald Tutor Campus Center at the University of Southern California and features farm-to-table cuisine. Former Top Chef contestant Alex Eusebio (recently of the popular Echo Park spot 15) has opened Sweetsalt Food Shop in Toluca Lake. The charming gourmet bistro features soups, charcuterie, salads and luxe (though not expensive) sandwiches, ranging from lavender duck confit to coffee-braised short rib roll and shitake truffle panini with sottocerene cheese. George Abou-Daoud (The Bowery, The Mercantile) has opened his most haute Hollywood restaurant yet, District. Helmed by Kris Morningstar (Blue Velvet, CASA) the menu features shrimp and grits, seared foie gas, pork belly with apricot mostarda, sea urchin gratin, and duck fat Yorkshire pudding. Expect artisanal cocktails like the "Hot Rod" comprised of bourbon, Fresno chili, lime juice and blackberries, and a select, moderately-priced wine list. Culinary Icon Fergus Henderson Teaches "Nose to Tail" Eating at Ciudad
Culinary icon Fergus Henderson of St. John Restaurant in London will make a rare appearance in Los Angeles with Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken at Cuidad May 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Learn the art of "nose to tail eating" at a demonstration cooking class, which includes a multi-course lunch, cocktails and a recipe book. Caché Presents a Midnight Happy Hour on Weekends
Caché Restaurant & Lounge presents a Midnight Happy Hour offering reduced pricing on signature cocktails and "Mason Jar" snacks by executive chef Josiah Citrin and chef de cuisine Nyesha Arrington. These snacks include eggplant tapenade, duck confit and foie gras parfait. Also on offer are $7 cocktails and well drinks, $7 wines by the glass and $4 beers. From the Kitchen to the Classroom
This fall, chef-restaurateur José Andrés (The Bazaar by José Andrés) will join with Catalan chef Ferran Adrià (elBulli) to teach a course on culinary physics at Harvard. The 13-week class will feature chef demonstrations and lectures and labs explaining molecular gastronomy innovations such as Adrià's foams. RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen Launches Prix-fixe Lunch Menu
RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen has launched a new prix-fixe lunch menu. Available daily, the menu is priced at $13 per guest for two courses, or $15 per guest for three courses. Options from executive chef Mohan Ismail's menu include chicken and mushroom potstickers, vegetable spring rolls, grilled short rib with rice vermicelli, Thai green curry and caramelized banana custard cake. WEST Restaurant & Lounge Introduces Pacific Skyline Brunch
WEST Restaurant & Lounge at the Hotel Angeleno has launched a "Pacific Skyline Brunch." Every Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., guests can enjoy dishes like made-to-order eggs "any style," bananas foster french toast with pecans, and seared salmon with tomato beurre blanc. Get Recipes from L.A. chefs through Hollywood Bowl Chefs Picnic Club
Chefs of prominent local restaurants will be participating in the Hollywood Bowl Chefs Picnic Club. Each week during the Hollywood Bowl season (June 14-September 26), recipes from a different chef---an appetizer, entrée and dessert ideal for concert picnics---will be emailed to anybody who registers. The Peninsula Beverly Hills Debuts Dine & Drive Sunday Brunch
Through April 25, The Peninsula Beverly Hills is offering a Dine & Drive Sunday Brunch. After the three-course meal, guests can take a chauffeured drive around Beverly Hills in a restored classic car. (Automobile options might range from a 1932 Studebaker Commander to a 1961 Ford T-Bird.) The price is $59 per person, exclusive of tax and gratuity; $69 per person with free-flowing Piper-Heidsieck Champagne. The cost is $32 for children under 12. XIV Terrace Happy Hour at XIV, Plus New Chef's Choice Tasting Menu
Michael Mina's XIV is hosting XIV terrace happy hour (Mon.-Sat. 5 p.m.-8 p.m.), featuring 50 percent off appetizers and signature cocktails and $5 beer and well drinks. Also, the new Chef's Choice Tasting Menu will include six of executive chef Steven Fretz's favorite dishes for $40 (vegetarian and vegan options will be available). CHEF SHUFFLE

K.C. Ma has officially replaced Joshua Smookler as head executive chef at Vinoteque on Melrose. Ma began his career at Water Grill, continued at Providence with Michael Cimarusti, and then went on to Craft Los Angeles. With Ma's arrival, the restaurant has expanded its menu, hours and meal offerings to include brunch, happy hour and a Sunday prix-fixe. Chef Harutaka Kishi Executive chef Andy Cook has left his position at Gordon Ramsay at the London West Hollywood. Chef Harutaka Kishi will take his place in the restaurant while chef Anthony Keene, who boasts more than a dozen years of experience with The Ritz-Carlton hotels in America and abroad, will serve as executive chef for The London West Hollywood hotel.
