OPENINGS

The charming neighborhood café Poppy + Rose has sprung up in the downtown L.A. Flower District, serving classic American comfort food for breakfast and lunch. Expect eggs with biscuits and gravy, a ribs tips breakfast burrito and pulled pork hash. Lighter fare includes a chopped salad and steel-cut oats with seasonal fruit. Breakfast & Lunch daily. L'Amande Bakery & Café is open in Beverly Hills, with traditional French pastries, breads, salads and sandwiches. Look for quiche, croque madame, a smoked salmon plate, and prosciutto on a buttered baguette. A dozen kinds of croissants include chocolate, pistachio and Portobello and ham, and there's a large selection of fresh fruit tarts, galettes and pies. Breakfast & Lunch daily. L'Amande, 9530 S. Modern American supper club Ocean Prime will open its 11th location on October 28, 2014, at the apex of Wilshire Boulevard, Dayton Way and Camden Drive. The menu will feature signature items including ahi tuna tartare, Oscar-style filet mignon and Chilean sea bass, alongside hand-rolled sushi. Spanning 11,400 square feet, including a sprawling terrace, the space will seat 350 guests and will feature three private dining rooms. Rise-N-Grind is a new late-night coffee house by Playhouse Nightclub owner Robert Vinokur. A hip décor features concrete, steel and more than 150 skateboards, as well as local artwork on the walls. Expect Stumptown Coffee Roasters coffees, tea by Art of Tea, and juices from Pressed Juicery. Homeboy Bakery provides the pastries, and there's also a selection of sandwiches, panini and yogurt parfaits. The plan is to operate 24/7 in the near future. Gentaro Soba is now open downtown at TASTE FIGat7th on the plaza level. This noodle eatery has its flagship in Tokyo, and features cold and hot buckwheat soba dishes including Hiyashi soba, Zaur soba, Vurry soba and Kake soba, as well as a variety of rice bowls ranging from tempura and spicy tuna to beef and curry. The Trois Mec team --- Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo (Animal, Son of a Gun) and Ludo Lefebvre (LudoBites) --- have opened a sister establishment next door called Petit Trois. The concept is a bar with classic French fare. Whereas Trois Mec only accommodates guests who have purchased "dining tickets" in advance, Petit Trois welcomes walk-in diners exclusively. Nick’s Manhattan Beach will open in the former Chez Soi space Nick's Manhattan Beach will open in the former Chez Soi space. The restaurant will offer a menu of classic American fare. The owners of Silver Lake Ramen have opened Kush Sake Bar in the former Cortez space on Allison Avenue in Echo Park. The small, izakaya-style restaurant serves up a variety of sake, yakitori and small plates featuring black cod, roast duck, pork belly, beef carpaccio and Japanese pumpkin. Dinner nightly. Pasadena’s stylish Argentinean eatery 1810 Restaurant has opened a sister spot in downtown L.A. on West 9th Street. Expect empanadas, sautéed sweetbreads, morcilla, a long list of steaks, as well as pastas, chicken and fish. Platters of grilled meats and vegetables are festive for larger groups. Big Bar, the chic Los Feliz mixology hot spot adjacent to Alcove, announces Aaron Alvarez, Los Angeles-based craft cocktail engineer, as its new manager. Also making its debut is a summer list of libations featuring beguiling sips like the "Cockney Sparrow" (Beefeater 24, rose tea, lemon, cucumber and Champagne), served prettily with rose petals. New Haute Street Food Happy Hour Menu
Petrossian Boutique & Restaurant is now offering an haute street food happy hour menu, Monday through Friday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Patrons can indulge in a caviar burger slider with pressed caviar, lettuce, fried egg, caviar aioli and french fries. There is also a playful smoked trout taco that comes with tequila-infused trout roe, cucumber ginger salsa and grapefruit. Select dishes for two are available as well, such as Petrossian caviar or hand-sliced smoked salmon, while drink specials include a caviar martini and the signature CaviarCube.
