With the gangbuster success of Searsucker, chef Brian Marlarkey will partner once again with uber cool designer Thomas Shoos on Burlap in Del Mar. Timed with the Del Mar Race season, Burlap, his next fabric-coined eatery, will be a “social dining experience,” according to the Fedora hat-wearing culinary whiz. Set in the Del Mar Heights shopping center, the restaurant’s ambiance will be “Asian-cowboy” with fire pits, a koi pond and a burlap wall. Menu items will range from oysters and Prime ribs in different glazes to rotisserie duck and sea urchin. The team behind the Encinitas Alehouse has opened a new satellite called Public House in La Jolla, where thirsty folks can gather for global craft beers and nibble on pub food. Think big burgers and a wide selection of brews on tap. It's a nice casual alternative to the La Jolla scene. There's also a nice patio for sipping suds on a sunny Southern California day.
 
Another exciting hangout on Adams Avenue, Cueva Bar offers craft microbrews, homemade empanadas, hearty stews, chili, gumbo and homemade flatbreads with savory toppings. The prices are affordable, especially at the festive happy hour from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Great music and a friendly staff add to the local vibe and inviting atmosphere for casual fun over good eats and drinks. The Burger Lounge, one of San Diego’s favorite burger haunts, has two new locations, one on University Avenue in Hillcrest and the other on Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp. Whether you prefer grass-fed beef; turkey loaded with basil; or a veggie patty mixed with quinoa, brown rice and spices, Burger Lounge serves up a fine specimen. Local Carmel Valley chef Dan Moody is bringing the pop-up restaurant concept to San Diego. Moody, who worked under chef Ludo Lefebvre, has created Relate, a temporary eatery which will operate our of St. Germain in Encinitas. For the month of February, Moody will serve up contemporary French with a down-home American flare at the bistro Tuesday to Saturday evenings. West Steak and Seafood's Organic Farm
At Bistro West and West Steak Seafood & Spirits, diners can now experience an authentic farm-to-table experience with organic vegetable offerings picked fresh daily from chef Eugenio Martignago’s new one-acre organic farm. Located in Carlsbad, the one-acre plot of land is producing a 100 percent organic harvest with more than 25 different vegetables including white eggplant, baby zucchini, yellow beets and heirloom tomatoes. The chef’s organic creations from the farm have become daily specialties at each restaurant. In the future, Martignago expects to offer public tours of the farm and incorporate special “fresh daily” dinners with wine pairings, specialty cooking classes and a weekly farm report for dinner guests at both restaurants. Tapas Tuesdays at The Glass Door Restaurant
The Glass Door Restaurant & Lounge at the Porto Vista Hotel & Suites has introduced a reinvented menu, with a focus on small plates for a fun dining experience in Little Italy. The menu features a variety of tapas, sides and table shares ranging in price from $6 to $14. To encourage guests to sample them all, the restaurant is also hosting “Tapas Tuesdays,” where guests can purchase three tapas for $20 all day.
