"Top Chef” toque Frank "The Bull" Terzoli has selected San Diego for his latest project. Set in a historical 100-year-old house on University Avenue, The Big Easy will feature Creole French food, and Terzoli’s interpretation of the best of the South. We can smell the beignets already! Lunch means crawfish and gator po' boys, chicken potpies and smoked beef brisket. Dinner---think steak Diane and gumbo. Terzoli loves rustic comfort food so expect big plates and homey spicy dishes. The Big Easy, 127 University Ave., Hillcrest, CA 92103, 619-294-3279.

The Counter has come to Carlsbad so North County folk can go create their favorite burger and experiment with the incredible abundance of accoutrements, as they claim to offer 312,120 different burger combinations, "making every burger as unique as each customer." Beyond the myriad cheeses and veggies choices, more unusual options include apricot sauce, dried cranberries, fried egg, and grilled pineapple. Lovely sweet potato fries and a tasty key lime pie for dessert. Good music and fun scene. The Counter, 1923 Calle Barcelona, San Diego, CA 92009, 760 652 5480.
