Hiroshi Eurasian Tapas Locally Grown Menu at Hiroshi Eurasian Tapas
One of Honolulu's most popular dinners is the monthly Locally Grown menu from chef Hiroshi Fukui. The menu is a celebration of locally sourced seafood, meats and produce prepared to reflect the season. The special menu at Hiroshi Eurasian Tapas is only available on Sunday and Monday evenings and is $35 per person (not including tax and gratuity). Through Monday, August 2, the menu starts with Maui Cattle beef served as a teriyaki sushi with pickled red ginger and shiso. The second course is a sous vide of Kona cold lobster tail with squid ink pasta and beurre blanc with white truffle oil. For the main course, Fukui offers a peppercorn-crusted ahi steak with Ho Farm long beans, Big Island hearts of palm with foie gras ponzu demi. For dessert, this menu features Hawaiian vanilla bean panna cotta with fresh mango sorbet. Reservations are essential. Call 808-533-4476 for reservations and be sure to mention that you want the locally grown menu. Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas, 500 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, HI 96813, 808-533-4476.

Honolulu's Gelato Maker Maurice Grasso Retires
La Gelateria founder Maurice Grasso has retired, but the shop carries on under new ownership with Kenwei Chong, formerly of the now-closed E & O Trading Company, at the helm. While the signature fresh tropical fruit flavors made famous by Grasso continue to be popular, Chong has introduced some new flavors including a sesame seed version. Not your typical gelato shop, La Gelateria sells primarily to restaurants, but they will gladly welcome walk-in customers to their warehouse-shop---with prices starting at just $2 for a scoop, it's a refreshing treat. La Gelateria, 819 Cedar St., Honolulu, HI 96814, 808-591-1133.
