Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of the band KISS, Los Angeles area restaurateur Michael Zislis (ROCK'N FISH, Shade Hotel, Circa), and music industry vets Dave and Dell Furano are in talks to open a branch of Rock & Brews in Paia on Maui. The restaurant offers American fare and a selection of craft beers. Rock & Brews' other locations can be found in Mexico and in El Segundo and Redondo Beach in California. Chocolate cremeux dessert on the autumn menu at Chef Mavro Autumn Menu at Chef Mavro
Chef Mavro has introduced a new menu for the autumn season. A few of the dishes include a Sumida Farm watercress salad with Big Island fiddlehead fern, hearts of palm, mushrooms, Island cherry tomatoes, purpil onion, chervil and madras curry vinaigrette; Wagyu beef with a dot of yuzu kosho, oxtail loco moco and golden potato mochi; and a dessert of chocolate cremeux with black sesame seed caramelized rice, orange meringue, butterscotch crisp and sauce. Maui is known for its super sweet “Gold” pineapple, onions, sugar cane and the best banana bread on the planet. Those local foods and many more were the delicious focus of the second annual Ka’anapali Fresh, a recent two-day celebration showcasing the island’s hard-working farmers and ranchers and the chefs who transform those ingredients into memorable meals.
