Savor the Ambiance and Stay Within Budget at Al Biernat's Happy Hour
Al Biernat's is always a choice spot to rub elbows with the crème de la crème, but you don't necessarily need deep pockets to join the ranks of the chic and fabulous Monday through Friday during happy hour. Well drinks are just $5, call drinks are $7, and appetizers like the famous lump crab cakes run from $8 to $16. Al Biernat's happy hour is from 5  to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, so don appropriate attire (leave the sweat pants at home) and get there early, if you want a table. Get the Cure for What Ails You at Horne and Dekker's Hangover Brunch
If you've been overindulging in the "holiday spirit," you might seek remedy at the Horne and Dekker Hangover Brunch. It's been said that delectable food consumed between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. has restorative powers, and with dishes such as ginger snap pancakes, you can try the cure. 2011 Calendar to Help Feed North Texans in Need
Chef Kent Rathbun and Central Market have teamed up to create the North Texas Food Bank's 2011 Hunger & Thirst calendar. The calendar costs $19.95 and includes $24 worth of coupons to Central Market. All proceeds go to the NTFB, and the Rathbun recipes inside will give you plenty of culinary inspiration to redeem the coupons. For the cost of one calendar, the NTFB can provide about eighty meals, and as you enjoy the images and recipes, you'll also know that you have helped many needy North Texas families. The calendar can be purchased online at https://www.ntfb.org/d_holiday_calendar_purchase10.cfm. If you want to meet chef Rathbun and some of the NTFB staffers, come to the 5750 Lover's Lane location of Central Market on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon when they get together to promote the calendar and have some foodie fun. Chef Shuffle

Chef David Bull has returned to Austin where he will open two restaurants in The Austonian, vacating the top toque spot at Bolla in The Stoneleigh Hotel. Bull is still an employee of La Cosha Hospitality, the group that manages the Stoneleigh, and his replacement is Cesar Gallegos, another La Cosha colleague. Chef Gallegos has many years of cooking experience in luxury and historic hotel properties throughout Texas, and he brings a wealth of cooking expertise to his new position. Be on the lookout for tweaks and touches to the menu as chef Gallegos brings his particular style and tastes to Bolla.
