Paradise Pantry has opened at 677 E. Main St. in downtown Ventura, the former location of Westside Cellar, where co-owner Kelly Briglio used to be chef. A full-service restaurant pairs with a retail wine and cheese shop. Paradise Pantry, 677 E. Main St., Ventura, CA 93001, 805-641-9440.

American Ale has opened at 14 E. Cota St., bringing contemporized American classics --- think elaborate burgers, American craft beers, hand-shaken whiskey drinks and moonshine (yes, moonshine) --- to the former home of Square One. The Jolly Oyster On the Move
The Jolly Oyster has joined the food truck caravan, partnering with local chef Adrien Nieto to roll out dishes like stone crab tostadas and oyster tacos served on the go. The Jolly Oyster, San Buenaventura State Beach, Ventura, CA 93001, 805-798-4944.

Chef Shuffle

Chef Matt Johnson has taken the top spot at Stonehouse, San Ysidro Ranch’s fine dining restaurant. Chef Johnson replaces Jamie West, who now helms the kitchen at Casa Dorinda Retirement Community in Montecito, where his friend Julia Child spent her final years. Ventura's The SideCar Restaurant closed in mid-May 2013, following a successful 10-year run. Chef/owner Tim Kilcoyne, a longtime proponent of local, organic, seasonal food, earned a positive reputation that spread well beyond Ventura County. He is currently on the hunt for a new location, though it will be impossible to replicate the distinctive 1910 Pullman train car that housed SideCar and added to its fame. The Camarillo location of Aloha Steakhouse has closed. The waterfront Ventura version of the steakhouse remains open, however, and plans are underway for a new restaurant in the Camarillo space. Aloha Steakhouse, 5800 Santa Rosa Rd., Camarillo, CA 93012, no phone.

The restaurant at Canary Hotel in downtown Santa Barbara has again undergone a shift. Finch & Fork is the new name of what used to be Coast --- and before that, 31 West.
