Scarlett Begonia has opened in downtown Santa Barbara's Victoria Court. Modern American cuisine makes up the menu, with breakfast dishes such as cardamom raisin french toast and red quinoa oatmeal; and shitake salads and smoked salmon flatbread for lunch. A Taste of Bella Vista
Alessandro Cartumini, the chef at Four Seasons Resort, The Biltmore Santa Barbara, has created a seasonal five-course tasting menu for the property's Bella Vista restaurant. Showcasing fresh, local ingredients, the prix-fixe menu for October will include a salad of heirloom tomatoes, burrata cheese and basil; champagne risotto with black truffles and thyme; roasted scallops with artichokes, pancetta and spicy greens; duck breast with basked ricotta, plums and broccolini; and, for dessert, apricot almond cake. Vesta restaurant in Ojai has closed. Formerly a preferred spot for breakfast and lunch al fresco, the establishment recently changed hands and lost favor with many regular patrons. Vesta, 242 E. Ojai Ave., Ojai, CA 93023, no phone.

Piatti restaurant in Montecito has closed. The neighboring gourmet market/bistro Pierre Lafond plans to expand into the vacant space and recreate itself as Montecito Wine Bistro Pierre Lafond, an upscale version of its downtown Santa Barbara sister restaurant (Pierre Lafond Wine Bistro). What began as a French brasserie morphed into an international melting pot of culinary styles before fizzling out completely. Fashion-designer-turned-restaurateur Gene Montesano has shuttered Café Luck, citing a down economy as the reason and leaving the eventual possibility of a new concept on the table. Cafe Luck, 18 E.
