Openings

Chio, pronounced "kee-oh," is a new Italian/Mediterranean restaurant that focuses on healthful eating. The menu highlights vegetables, though the place is not vegetarian. Chio, 117 Columbia St., Brooklyn, NY 11231, 718-237-4300.
 
The Bowery Kitchen has opened in New York Located in The Bowery House, a budget hotel, The Bowery Kitchen serves up simple Italian dishes in a near diner-like environment. Menu items range from homemade lasagna with Italian meat ragu and taleggio cheese and creamy risotto with chicken, pineapple, apple and curry. The Bowery Kitchen also has its own proprietary "Bowery Brew." The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Chef Andy Ricker has closed his popular Pok Pok Wing on the Lower East Side and reopened it as Pok Pok Phat Thai, an eatery devoted exclusively to pad thai. Pok Pok Phat Thai, 137 Rivington St., New York, NY 10002, 212-477-1299.
 
New Carroll Gardens joint Dassara serves up traditional ramen as well as a "deli ramen," fusing New York-style ingredients (pastrami, for example) with the Japanese noodle dish. Dassara, 271 Smith St., Brooklyn, NY 11231, 718-643-0781.
 
Ducks Eatery, located in the East Village, has a self-trained, former table tennis professional helming its kitchen. The menu is heavy on Asian-themed dishes. Ducks Eatery, 351 E. 12th St., New York, NY 10003, 212-432-3825.
 
Chef Dale Talde's Pork Slope is a few blocks away from his hot eponymous restaurant. The menu is not all porcine treats, though; there's also chicken and fish. Pork Slope, 247 Fifth Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11215, 718-768-7675.
 


News Bytes
Delmonico's on the Move
The 175-year-old Delmonico's has announced it is expanding to Midtown this autumn. Word on the street is that the new restaurant won't just be a copy of the original downtown location but something different. Location and exact opening date are not yet available. Eleven Madison Park is trading places temporarily with Alinea in Chicago Trading Places
Two of the country's most acclaimed restaurants will soon be trading places: Eleven Madison Park's Daniel Humm and crew will be heading to Chicago to cook at Alinea, and Grant Achatz and his crew from Alinea will be heading east to set up shop in Eleven Madison Park. The project is officially called 21st Century Limited. Diners, especially those with fat wallets, will get a chance to sample chef Achatz's offerings at Eleven Madison Park for five nights starting on September 26. The NoMad Travels Indoors
The NoMad is packing up its rooftop dining area for the summer; it will see its last dinner on August 31. The area will reopen next year. NoMad, The NoMad Hotel, 1170 Broadway, New York, NY 10001, 347-472-5660.
 
A Collaboration Between Eleven Madison Park & Chicago's Alinea
Chef Daniel Humm and Eleven Madison Park are collaborating with Chicago chef Grant Achatz and Alineaon a special project called 20th Century Ltd. Details are limited at the moment. Stay tuned for more. Eleven Madison Park, 11 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10010, 212-889-0905.
 
"Bespoke Dining" Company Kitchit Brings in More Chefs
Kitchit, which arranges "bespoke dining" experiences, has added several names to its roster of chefs available for private, in-home events. The company's culinary talent now includes Brad Farmerie (Public), Dave Martin (ChefDaveMartin.com), Jacqueline Lombard (Jacqueline Lombard Events) and Bill Telepan (Telepan). Chef Shuffle
Ed Kulp, late of Torrisi Italian Specialties in NYC, will step into the top toque position at Fork in Philly in mid September. Mercat, a Barcelona-flavored eatery located in NoHo, has shut down. Mercat, 45 Bond St., New York, NY 10012, no phone.
 
Michael Huynh has shut down the East Village outpost of BaoBQ, citing problems with the building. The Greenwich Village location of BaoBQ is still open. BaoBQ, 229 First Ave., New York, NY 10003, no phone.
