Openings

Pizzetteria Brunetti, a father-son outfit with an original location on Long Island, has opened in the West Village space that recently housed French restaurant Bistro de la Gare. As the name suggests, the restaurant serves Neapolitan-style pizzas. The menu also boasts small plates inspired by Naples. Pizzetteria Brunetti, 626 Hudson St., New York, NY 10014, 212-255-5699.
 
Pippali, a new Indian eatery from chef Peter Beck (Benares, Tamarind, Chola), serves up spicy dishes (it’s named after a hot pepper, after all). Pippali is located in Murray Hill, aka "Curry Hill." Pippali, 129 E. 27th St., New York, NY 10016, 212-689-1999.
 
Vacca Grill & Lounge is a new 6,000-square-foot restaurant located in a former car mechanic garage in Inwood. The kitchen serves up pan-Latin cuisine, and there’s also an attached 70-seat Champagne lounge. Vacca Grill & Lounge, 416 W. 203rd St., New York, NY 10034, 212-544-0070.
 
The distance between Algiers and Paris? 1200 miles. Chef Pierre Rougey cooks up dishes that combine everything in between at 1200 Miles. Or at least French and North African delights. 1200 Miles, 31 W. 21st St., New York, NY 10010, 212-510-8722.
 
From Boston comes Toro, a Spanish tapas place in west Chelsea. The menu includes dishes like sea urchin sandwich and beef heart romesco. The restaurant shares a building with Colicchio & Sons and Del Posto. Toro, 85 Tenth Ave., New York, NY 10011, 212-691-2360.
 
Chef Marc Forgione has opened American Cut steakhouse in TriBeCa, which serves a huge, 42-ounce tomahawk chop for two. The 80-seat restaurant also has a small bar attached. American Cut, 363 Greenwich St., New York, NY 10013, 212-226-4736.
 
Set in the space once home to upscale SHO Shaun Hergatt, Reserve Cut, is a new kosher steakhouse that also has some Asian and French-inspired dishes on the menu. The 200-seat dining room boasts a sushi bar, too. Reserve Cut, The Setai Wall Street, 40 Broad St., New York, NY 10004, 212-747-0300.
 
The legendary Rainbow Room, located atop Rockefeller Plaza, is set to reopen. The historic bar and restaurant will be shining above the Big Apple in the fall of 2014. Rainbow Room, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10112, no phone.
 
In the East Village space that formerly housed popular JoeDough comes Joe & MissesDoe. The restaurant serves reimagined American classics and straight-up comfort food. Han Dynasty, a popular mini-chain of Chinese restaurants in Philadelphia, has opened its first New York outpost in the East Village. The restaurant serves Szechuan cuisine, both traditional and innovative. Han Dynasty, 90 Third Ave., New York, NY 10003, 212-390-8685.
 
New 2,500-square-foot The Winslow, located in the East Village, is a British gin joint serving up food to complement the cocktails. Offal-ly Good
Maialino, the Roman restaurant in Gramercy Park, has a new offal-centric menu that it’s offering in addition to its normal menu. Offal delights include prosciutto-wrapped sweetbreads and suckling pig face. Maialino, Gramercy Park Hotel, 2 Lexington Ave., New York, NY 10010, 212-777-2410.
 
Musical Mondays at Le Cirque Cafe
Le Cirque Cafe presents Musical Mondays, featuring live jazz music from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. (No cover free.) Guests can also take advantage of the $38 two-course prix-fixe dinner menu. New Look for db bistro moderne
Daniel Boulud's db bistro moderne has a new look. Autumn in a Glass
Elegant Two E Bar / Lounge in The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York, has a new line-up of autumnal cocktails. Drinks like the Fig & Tan (figs infused with a Guinness reduction and paired with Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum) are now available for sipping. A Taste of Samuelsson
New York chef and common face on TV food shows, Marcus Samuelsson, is joining ABC's "The Taste." He joins Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson and Ludo Lefebvre for its second season.
 
Ramen Burgers for Brooklyn
From September 14 to October 15, Dassara --- the creative ramen joint in Brooklyn --- will be serving the food phenom ramen burger. If the recent past is any indication, there will be lines. Dassara, 271 Smith St., Brooklyn, NY 11231, 718-643-0781.
 
Seasonal Spruce-Up

JFK's Terminal 2 Takes Off, Taste-Wise
Delta is refurbishing Terminal 2 at JFK with some big name chefs: Andrew Carmellini, Laurent Tourondel and Cesare Casella will all be opening up eateries there in the near future. Flying just got a bit tastier.
 
King Cole Bar Revamp
John DeLucie, chef/owner of The Lion and Crown, is taking over the legendary King Cole Bar in The St. Regis New York. The new spot, to be rechristened King Cole Bar & Salon, will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. King Cole Bar, 2 E. 55th St., New York, NY 10022, 212-753-4500, 800-759-7550.
 
The Next Cronut?
Dominique Ansel, creator of the insanely popular cronut, has just premiered the new Magic Souffle, a Grand Marnier soufflé encased in orange blossom brioche. Chef Shuffle
Susur Lee, whose Shang in New York shut down last year, will open a restaurant in the almost-finished One World Trade Center building on the 66th floor, which will serve reimagined Chinese cuisine. There's no exact opening date for the restaurant.
 
Kenny Callaghan, the chef at Blue Smoke for the last 12 years, is leaving the restaurant. A replacement has not yet been announced. Blue Smoke, 116 E. 27th St., New York, NY 10016, 212-447-7733.
 


Closings

Michael "Bao" Huynh, who left for Saigon earlier this year, has remnants of his once-bustling now-crumbling restaurant empire left throughout the city. And he now has one fewer: the West Village’s casual Baoguette/Pho Sure has shut down for good. Baoguette/Pho Sure, 120 Christopher St., New York, NY 10014, no phone.
 
Butter, the clubby restaurant in NoHo, has temporarily shut down due to an extensive renovation. It will reopen sometime in November. In the meantime, the Butter partners are planning to open a new location in Midtown this autumn. Butter, 415 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10003, no phone.
 
Betel, the Southeast Asian eatery in the West Village, has closed. Betel, 51 Grove St., New York, NY 10014, no phone.
 
Three years after its owner/chef passed away, Lower East Side restaurant Zucco: Le French Diner has closed down. Zucco: Le French Diner, 188 Orchard St., New York, NY 10002, no phone.
 
After 22 years, Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill shut down. The prolific chef blames it on New York real estate. The restaurant served its last coffee-rubbed chicken at the end of August. Mesa Grill, 102 Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10011, no phone.
