Alison Price Becker, who was responsible for the late Alison on Dominick Street, is back with Alison Eighteen, a Chelsea eatery with a French-American menu. Alison Eighteen, 15 W. 18th St., New York, NY 10011, 212-366-1818.
 
JBird Cocktails, an Upper East Side cocktail bar and restaurant, has a menu of 29 cocktails and dishes like burgers, salads, and roasted bone marrow on toast. JBird Cocktails, 339 E. 75th St., New York, NY 10021, 212-288-8033.
 
Caffe Storico has opened in the New York Historical Society building Stephen Starr's latest New York City restaurant is Caffe Storico. Located in the New York Historical Society building, the 74-seat restaurant serves up small bites of classic Italian cuisine. Jim Burke is the top toque in the kitchen. Motorino owner and Belgian-born Mathieu Palombino has opened The Bowery Diner, a restaurant with a classic American diner look but with creative fare made from topnotch ingredients on the menu. The Bowery Diner, 241 Bowery, New York, NY 10002, 212-388-0052.
 
"Top Chef" alum Dale Talde has opened up an eponymous eatery --- Talde --- in Brooklyn's Park Slope. The menu is eclectic and pan-Asian. Talde, 369 Seventh Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11215, 347-916-0031.
 
Danny Meyer's latest restaurant is North End Grill, located way downtown in the Financial District. Floyd Cardoz, who helmed the kitchen at the late Tabla, is the chef. Located on the site of the original Ray's Pizza, the new Prince St. Pizza serves up Neapolitan-style pies as well as the signature "Soho Square" pizzas, each one named after a different street in the neighborhood. Prince St. Pizza, 27 Prince St., New York, NY 10002, 212-966-4100.
 
Blue Smoke's downtown outpost is now open. The barbecue menu is the same as the original Blue Smoke in Gramercy, but this location has grilled oysters and a few other additional menu items. Blue Smoke, 255 Vesey St., New York, NY 10282, 212-889-2005.
 
L'Asso EV is the outpost of the original restaurant in NoLIta. The 100-seat eatery serves up pizza, including gluten-free versions. L'Asso EV, 107 First Ave., New York, NY 10003, 212-837-2045.
 


News Bytes
The Return of M. Wells?
It seemed like a joke at first: rumors that M. Wells chef/owner Hugue Dufour would be opening up a steakhouse in a catamaran factory in Long Island City. Then he confirmed it on a Montreal radio station. There are no other details at this time, but M. Wells fans are ready to cruise on over.
 
NYC Winter Restaurant Week
New York City's Winter Restaurant Week is upon us. From January 16 to February 10, participating restaurants will offer a three-course lunch for $24.07 and dinner for $35. Restaurants include Boulud Sud, Esca, Le Cirque and Maialino, among hundreds of others. To find out more, visit www.nycgo.com/restaurantweek.
 
Waxman/Rosa Mexicano Alliance
Chef Jonathan Waxman, who holds down the fort at the West Village Italian restaurant Barbuto, has signed on to be a "chef in residence" at the Rosa Mexicano mini chain. Chef Shuffle
Chef Francis Derby, an alum of wd-50, Gilt and Momofuku Ssäm Bar, helms the kitchen at this restaurant on the border between the West Village and SoHo. The menu at King focuses mostly on classic European dishes. King, 5 King St., New York, NY 10012, 212-255-0700.
 


Closings

After just two months, Williamsburg's Pillar & Plough has already shut down.
 
Beloved tea room and light eatery The Adore, located on E. 13th St. near Union Square, has shut down. The Adore, 17 E. 13th St., New York, NY 10003, no phone.
 
The Lower East Side fave Little Giant has shut down. The lease was up and the owners decided not to renew it.
 
The Polish restaurant Polonia, located in the East Village, has shut down.
 
The old-school, red sauce Italian restaurant Rocco, located on Bleecker and Thompson Streets, has shut down. Chefs Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone will take over the space for a new restaurant.
