BOSTON RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Chef William Kovel of Four Seasons Hotel Boston fame has just opened his own restaurant named Catalyst in Cambridge's Kendall Square. Named after the spark that he needed to create his own restaurant, Catalyst also ties in with the technology companies that surround the restaurant. The restaurant features reclaimed wood, a fireplace and outdoor patio and offers modern American cuisine with French influences with starters like spice crusted hiramasa served with orange-yuzu syrup and cucumber radish salad along with an "Around the Bend" farm egg served with salt cod and smoked bacon. Some of Kovel's entrees include beef tournedo with taleggio ravioli, swiss chard, garlic and parsley with Rhode Island striped bass served with corn, lobster and basil. Catalyst, 300 Technology Square, Cambridge, MA 02139, 617-986-0218.

After 20 years being a staple on Newbury Street, The Capital Grille has relocated just a few blocks away, adjacent to the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center. The restaurant doubled in size and is now offering lunch for the first time. The Capital Grille's lunch dishes include sliced filet mignon with cippolini onions and wild mushrooms, cedar plank salmon with tomato fennel relish, The Grille's signature cheeseburger, Maine lobster salad and a lobster and crab burger. Dinners here still feature their well known dry-aged, hand-carved beef selections along with seafood dishes, including fresh broiled lobster, lobster and crab cakes and the signature pan-fried calamari with hot cherry peppers. The Capital Grille, 900 Boylston St., Boston, MA 02115, 617-262-8900.

Located on the edge of the South End and Back Bay in the space of the former 33 Restaurant & Lounge, the two-story Brahmin American Cuisine & Cocktails is modeled after an early 1900s brownstone. The interior here is modeled after an early 1900s brownstone with exposed brick walls and high ceilings. The menu features classic American small plates such as salmon crudo and entrees like beef short ribs that are best enjoyed accompanied by one of their pre-Prohibition cocktails. There is also a patio for al fresco dining and the restaurant was recently approved for an entertainment license. The Brahmin American Cuisine & Cocktails, 33 Stanhope St., Boston, MA 02116, 617-723-3131.
