Amar Santana and Ahmed Labbate will launch The Hall Global Eatery at South Coast Plaza Amar Santana, the executive chef-owner of Broadway by Amar Santana and Vaca, and business partner Ahmed Labbate will launch The Hall Global Eatery at South Coast Plaza in Summer 2019. Restaurateur Yassmin Sarmadi and chef Tony Esnault will open Knife Pleat Restaurateur Yassmin Sarmadi and chef Tony Esnault (Los Angeles’ Church & State) will open a French restaurant named Knife Pleat at Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza in Spring 2019. The fine dining venue Henry’s Restaurant will open at The Waterfront Beach Resort, a Hilton Hotel in May. The Huntington Beach restaurant will feature a seasonal farm-to-table concept built on innovative technique and composition, set against an ocean view. Guests can expect dishes such as pork belly with salt pea vichyssoise, Mangalitsa pork chop with fresh wasabi root and black sea salt, and a 60-day dry-aged New York steak with roasted beets and popped buckwheat. Chef Shuffle

Vic Casanova has been tapped as Balboa Bay Resort’s new executive chef. The chef takes the reins from Rachel Haggstrom, who left the Newport Beach property in December. Like his predecessor, Casanova will oversee the kitchens of the resort’s fine dining property Waterline and its more casual gastropub A&O Kitchen + Bar. Cody Storts is no longer the executive chef at Wreckless. The well-traveled Orange County chef, who previously displayed his skills at Grits Fullerton, Hopscotch, Tempo Urban Kitchen and Salt & Ash, had held the position for the downtown Fullerton restaurant since its opening in late 2017. 3 Thirty 3 Waterfront will be closing its doors this summer. The space left behind by the Newport Beach restaurant’s shuttering will be occupied by a new restaurant project, Tavern House. SeaSalt Woodfire Grill in Huntington Beach has closed its doors. The restaurant, which was known for emphasizing Santa Maria-style barbecue, will hand over its keys to the restaurant group behind SOCIAL Costa Mesa that will be turning the space into a different dining concept. SeaSalt’s shuttering will not affect its sister restaurant, SeaLegs Wine Bar, which will remain open in Huntington Beach. Pascal, the San Juan Capistrano restaurant and epicerie operated by legendary Orange County chef Pascal Olhats, has closed its doors. Olhats is shuttering the venue to focus energies on his other projects, including teaching, mentoring, and overseeing Cafe Jardin, the restaurant in Newport Beach’s Sherman Library & Gardens.
