Umami Burger, the popular Los Angeles-based chain, will be coming to Laguna Beach. The eatery, which will be occupying the space that formerly housed the French/Mediterranean restaurant Picayo, is slated to open its doors in early 2012. This marks the chain's second announced location in OC, as another venue is scheduled to open in downtown Anaheim by the end of 2011. Umami Burger, 610 N. Former Sorrento Grille executive chef Ryan Adams' new venue Three Seventy Common Kitchen + Drink has officially opened. Located in downtown Laguna Beach within the space formerly occupied by Sorrento Grille for 23 years, the eatery pairs a casual, modern setting with a rotating seasonal menu of contemporary American fare emphasizing locally sourced ingredients. Items on the debut menu include broccolini served with a fried egg, asagio, prosciutto and bread crumbs; wild mushroom bruschetta served with bitter greens; and shepherd's pie. Haven Gastropub Heads North with Second Location
In mid-November, Orange County-based Haven Gastropub is slated to open in Old Pasadena, with an inventive menu from chef Greg Daniels and beers brewed onsite from brewmaster David Larsen. Daniels will offer dishes such as lamb burger; goose pastrami sandwich; duck proscuitto flatbread with leek jam, Point Reyes blue cheese and arugula; and grilled octopus with caramelized fennel and citrus aïoli. Bread pudding and bacon ice cream will be offered for dessert, and a wide selection of craft beers will be poured, plus a global wine list. Lunch & Dinner daily. Sunday Night Rib Roasts at Palm Terrace
Palm Terrace at The Island Hotel Newport Beach is featuring a family-style Sunday night rib roast. Served from 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., chef Bill Bracken's three-course Sunday supper begins with selections such as tomato and mozzarella salad, truffle macaroni and cheese and steamed artichokes. The Prime rib main is augmented by sides like green bean casserole, sautéed wild mushrooms and creamed corn. A host of soufflé choices ranging from Grand Marnier to peanut butter finishes off the meal. The cost is $39.95 per person, $12.95 for a special kids buffet, and free for children under five. Kyung Soo Carroll has been announced as the new executive chef at Mix Restaurant in the Hilton Anaheim. Carroll, who will also be overseeing the hotel's entire culinary program, comes to Orange County after spending the last eighteen years working in Southeast Asia and the East Coast, primarily in the Washington, D.C. area.
