Chao, which sounds like "chow" and means both welcome and hello in Vietnamese, recently opened in Capitol Hill's Pike/Pine neighborhood. With a retro interior, Chao does not focus on a single cuisine, but describes its menu as offering "a daring menu heavy on traditional comfort foods with a contemporary twist." The eclectic menu includes kalbi tacos, Kobe beef chili, lemongrass crab cakes, banana BBQ-sauce pork rib, and whole fried salt and pepper chicken. Rover's Chef in a Hat Opening Casual Café This Winter
Rover's chef Thierry Rautureau is expanding his Madison Valley footprint with a second restaurant to be called LUC (pronounced Luke) after his late father. The new kitchen and bar will offer a more casual alternative to the elegant Rover’s, with food and drink influenced by a global palate grounded in Rautureau’s French heritage and training. The opening at the corner of MLK and Madisonis planned for February 2010. Rover's, 2808 E. Madison St., Seattle, WA 98112, 206-325-7442.
 
Chef Tamara Murphy Opening New Capitol Hill Restaurant
Chef/owner Tamara Murphy of Belltown's acclaimed Brasa will be opening a second restaurant in a Capitol Hill location. Named Terra Plata, the new estabilshment will be located at the corner of Pike and Pine in the Melrose Triangle Project, which is a redevelopment of two historic buildings into mixed use retail, restaurants, and an office complex. Matt Dillion's restaurant Sitka & Spruce will relocate to the same building, which is scheduled to be completed later this year.

Troiani, one of the MacKay Restaurant Group’s restaurants, has closed its doors and will reopen later this month as Sharp’s Fish Market. The new restaurant's menu will feature seafood entrees at approachable prices, averaging in the mid-$20s. The wine program will offer a 100 percent Northwest selection and include events with local winemakers. Sharp’s will also have a fish market counter where guests can purchase the daily catch, plus grab a bottle of Northwest wine to take home.
