Happy Hour at The Edgewater
The Six Seven Restaurant & Lounge, located at The Edgewater hotel on Pier 67, is offering bar specials to chase away recession blues. The happy hour menu features $5 appetizers such as Kobe beef or tandoori lamb sliders, Penn Cove mussels and tuna tacos, as well as $6 signature drink specials, $6 wine specials, and $3.75 draught beer. Comfort Food Suppers at Pearl
Needing a taste of comfort in trying times? Pearl is offering a reasonably priced comfort food supper menu every Sunday. For just $15, enjoy dishes such as Dungeness crab penne in garlic cream sauce, classic pot roast with herbs, vegetables, and Yukon gold potatoes, or a prime ground beef burger topped with Tillamook Cheddar on a brioche bun. Seattle Chefs Nominated for James Beard Awards
Pacific Northwest chefs are well represented among the nominees for this year's coveted James Beard Awards. Considered the Oscars of the food world, the awards will be presented May 4 in New York. Seattle's Tom Douglas is up for Outstanding Restaurateur, while nominees for Best Chef Northwest are Joseba Jimenez de Jimenez (The Harvest Vine and Txori), Jason Wilson (Crush), Ethan Stowell (Union, Tavolata, How to Cook a Wolf, Anchovies & Olives), third-time nominee Maria Hines of Tilth, and Cathy Whims, from Nostrana in Portland.
 
2009 Pacific Coast Oyster Wine Competition Launched
The 2009 Pacific Coast Oyster Wine Competition, the popular annual "dating service" for West Coast wines and oysters, is underway! The Competition seeks to identify the ten best West Coast wines to pair with West Coast oysters. California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington wineries are invited to submit their best "oyster wine." The Competition, sponsored by Taylor Shellfish Farms of Shelton, Washington, and organized by founder Jon Rowley of Jon Rowley & Associates, Seattle, will select 10 equal winners for the coveted "Oyster Award." Judges include oyster-loving food and wine writers, restaurateurs and retailers. Deadline for entries is 6:00 pm, March 20. Chef Shuffle

The chefs who launched Kirkland's wine-themed restaurant, bin vivant at the Woodmark Hotel, Yacht Club & Spa, have left. Lisa Nakamura, formerly at The French Laundry and Qube, is no longer chef, and wine director Dawn Smith has also departed.
