RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Adam Hoffman, who was chef de cuisine at Rover's for 10 years, recently opened his own restaurant in Monroe, a growing hub for eastside suburbanites. Located in the former Sailfish Bar and Grill, Adam's Northwest Bistro & Brewery is at opposite ends of the spectrum from fancy pants Rover's. The casual, reasonably-priced restaurant serves upscale but hearty bistro fare, including steaks, stews, fish and pastas. Open nightly for dinner, Adam's is about 30 minutes from downtown Seattle. Dinner nightly. Adam’s Northwest Bistro & Brewery, 104 N. Lewis St., Monroe, WA 98271, 360-754-4056.

Will Seattle finally have a genuine deli? Robin Leventhal, the owner-chef of the delightful but now defunct Crave in Capitol Hill, is opening a deli on Mercer Island in early May. Located next to Island Books, Stopsky's will combine classic Jewish cuisine with Pacific Northwest ingredients. Look for all the classics: pastrami, corned beef, matzoh-ball soup, kreplach and kugel, rye bread, challah, and rugelach. The 36-seat deli is owned by Jeff and Lara Sanderson, who named it in honor of Jeff's grandfather, Gilbert Stopsky, who arrived in America in 1905 immigrating from a Jewish village outside Kiev, Ukraine. Stopsky's, 3016 78th Ave SE, Mercer Island, WA 98040, no phone yet.

Two of Seattle’s favorite moving restaurants, Skillet Street Food and Marination Mobile, will each open permanent locations this month. Marination Mobile, the Seattle-based Hawaiian-Korean barbecue truck, will open Marination Station above the QFC supermarket at the corner of Broadway and Pike in Seattle’s Capitol Hill. The 601-square-foot restaurant will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Skillet Street Food, one of Seattle's original gourmet food trucks, is also opening a brick-and mortar restaurant at 1400 East Union Street in Capitol Hill. Both vendors will also continue to operate their trendy food mobiles.
