Openings

After briefly closing, Coastal Kitchen has reopened with a new cocktail bar, an oyster bar, and a fresh new look. Open daily from 8 a.m. until midnight, this Capitol Hill eatery has been a dining favorite for almost two decades. New chef Jason Jones comes from Poppy and plans to continue the seafood focus. Moksha, a sophisticated Indian restaurant, recently opened in Bellevue Square in the space previously occupied by Luciano Ristorante. It is owned by Lakshmi Thanu, who also owns Spice Route in Bellevue's Crossroads neighborhood. Offering both meat and vegetarian dishes, the signature dish at this elegantly designed restaurant is Karaikudi, a curry with lamb or vegetables stir-fried with onion, garlic, tomato, black pepper, curry leaf, red chile and fennel. Tom Douglas Lays Claim to Amazon Real Estate for his Next Enterprises
Seattle's most famous chef, Tom Douglas, is adding even more restaurants in the Denny Triangle area near the Amazon campus to his restaurant empire. With already a dozen restaurants (his first was the venerable Dahlia Lounge), the pioneer of Pacific Northwest cuisine plans to open four eateries in spring 2013 near the Amazon campus. Located in the Via6 apartment complex, they will include a steak-focused diner, a bakery, a café, and an "urban market' with his own line of prepared foods.
 
Celebrate Seattle Restaurant Week October 14-25
More than 150 restaurants are participating in the fall run of Seattle Restaurant Week scheduled October 14-18 and October 21-25. Enjoy three-course dinners for $28 (excluding drinks, tax and tips), dine at many restaurants offering three-course lunches for $15. Buenos Aires Grill Adds a New Corner Bar
Buenos Aires Grill, the South American restaurant across the street from the Moore Theater, is taking over the adjacent space at the corner of Second and Virginia recently vacated by Whisky Bar. Chef Maria Hines Appointed to American Chef Corps
Maria Hines, owner/chef of Tilth and Golden Beetle, was recently appointed to the first American Chef Corps by the US State Department. In her position, she joins 80 top chefs from around the country as a "culinary ambassador" who will prepare meals for visiting dignitaries, as well as travel to U.S. embassies around the world to present culinary education programs to foreign audiences. As part of her appointment, Hines also will host culinary experts from around the world at her Seattle restaurants. Chef Shuffle

Chester Gerl, the chef at Pike Place Market's Matt's in the Market, is moving to New York to be closer to his wife's family, and will be replaced by Matt's current sous chef, Shane Ryan. No menu changes are anticipated at the popular market eatery. Dan Bugge, Matt's owner (the original Matt owns Lecosho on the Harbor Steps), plans to open a second restaurant called Radiator Whiskey. Fonté Café & Wine Bar has appointed Garrett Michael Brown, most recently at Belltown's Branzino, as its executive chef. Previously, chef Brown was at Verve Wine Bar & Bistro, Ray's Boathouse, and The Harvest Vine. Chef Brown is a graduate of the Seattle Art Institute's culinary program and the University of Puget Sound. Fonté also announced it is considering opening a second location in the Big Apple. Robin Leventhal, formerly the chef at the now closed Crave and also Stopskys on Mercer Island, is now in the kitchen at Belltown's Local 360. Coastal Kitchen, a popular, cozy Capitol Hill eatery for almost 20 years, has closed temporarily to undergo a complete remodeling. It's expected to reopen early in October with a new shell bar featuring oysters and other fresh seafood. Diners will also find a new cocktail bar plus a a new chef, Jason Jones, who moved from Poppy. Chef Scott Carsberg has closed Bisato, his small, Venetian-style café in the space previously occupied by his high-end restaurant, Lampreia.
