RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Matt Janke, the talented original chef-owner of Matt's in the Market (still going strong with Matt’s former business partner), has opened Lecosho a few blocks south overlooking the Harbor Steps. Serving lunch and dinner, and open until 1 a.m. daily, Lecosho --- which translates to “pig” in Chinook native dialect, focuses on seasonal Northwest cuisine. Diners will find bacon, sausage and home-made charcuterie as well as seafood and pasta. Lunch & dinner daily. Lecosho, 89 University St., Seattle, WA 98101, 206-623-2101.

The much-anticipated Book Bindery opens this month in an industrial space overlooking the Ship Canal just north of Fremont. Seattle foodies have been buzzing about the credentials of its two partners: Shaun McCrain and Patric Gabre-Kidan. Chef McCrain worked at Les Elysss du Vernet in Paris, at Thomas Keller's Per Se in New York, and at Michael Mina in San Francisco. Patric Gabre-Kidan, formerly a pastry chef with Tom Douglas, is also the former chef at Ethan Stowell's Tavolata, How to Cook a Wolf and most, recently, Anchovies & Olives. Expectations are soaring for what could be Seattle's most exciting new restaurant to open this fall. Book Bindery, 198 Nickerson Street, Seattle, WA 98109, 206-283-2665.

Vuong and Tricia Loc, owners of the lovely French restaurant Portage in Queen Anne, recently opened June, a new café in the tiny space formerly occupied by Cremant in Madrona. Their eclectic menu is a seasonally inspired mélange of Asian, French, and new American flavors. Choices include braised lamb neck with hand cut pasta, stuffed rabbit leg with asparagus fondue, and a Thundering Hooves burger on a brioche bun. Despite its summery name, June's concrete floors and stark décor have a wintery yet casual, neighborhood vibe. June, 1423 34th Ave , Seattle, WA 98112, 206-323-4000.
