This fall, the Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC will welcome food and wine lovers from across the country as they come to the nation's capital to experience a "foodie" weekend. The Hip & Hungry Getaway, designed to showcase DC's diverse culinary scene, will run from Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27, 2009 and includes overnight accommodations at Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC. Guests can experience local favorites like Ben's Chili Bowl, tour the top farmers markets, enjoy cooking demonstrations with the city's top chefs and indulge in dinners throughout the event. A notable highlight of the Hip & Hungry Getaway is a six-course dinner tasting menu complete with wine pairings at the Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC's CityZen restaurant. Pizzeria Paradiso is moving to 2003 P St. NW (three doors up the street). Look for the reopening September 1. There will be indoor seating for 85, patio seating for 20-plus and a second Birreria Paradiso with 180 bottles of beer, 12 taps and one cask. Redwood Restaurant & Bar executive chef Blake Schumpert takes advantage of the new Bethesda Central Farm Market with a three-course tasting menu (exclusively on Thursday evenings) incorporating what he purchased that afternoon. The price for the three-course menu, offered through Nov. 1, will range each week from $39 to $45 per person based on the meats and produce purchased (beverages, tax and gratuity not included) and the à la carte menu is also available. In addition, Redwood is offering Dinner and A Movie to coincide with Movies Under the Stars, a series of free outdoor films shown Tuesday evenings on Bethesda Lane. Schumpert is featuring a three-course menu priced at $20 per person (beverages, tax and gratuity not included), available for patrons dining on the outdoor patio only.
