Openings

Gelato artisan and Dolcezza co-owner Robb Duncan will open a new location in June. It will feature a to-go window that will allow customers to order gelato and Stumptown Coffee from the street. There will also be a sundae bar with a seasonal menu and whipped cream and fresh toppings. The original front entrance door and retail shelving of the building, which was a pharmacy built in 1878, will be maintained. Chef Michael Schlow will open Tico in the Louis Project in June. Schlow debuted the first Tico in Boston in 2011. It will be an American establishment that is influenced by the chef’s travels to Spain, Mexico and Latin America. On offers will be ceviches, tacos, small plates, a la plancha selections and family-style entrées. Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab has opened on 15th Street near the White House. A restaurant with a lengthy history, Joe’s is serving its signature Florida stone crab claws and Key lime pie, in addition to a selection of seafood dishes, Prime steaks and other items like fried chicken. The DC outpost is open for lunch, cocktail hour and late-night dining. Located in the former Union Trust Building, Joe’s houses 475 seats and several distinct event spaces. Toro Toro Features Brunch
Toro Toro has launched its weekend brunch service that includes Pan-Latin small plates on a buffet --- think seasonal salads, meats, raw bar, and breads and cheeses. After that, patrons can enjoy a selection of hot and cold savory plates and Toro Toro’s “Rodizio Experience,” a selection of hot-off-the-spit meats that are carved and ready for the table, plus desserts. There is also an array of side dishes, as well as four mimosa cocktails and a Bloody Mary bar where guests can create their cocktail by choosing from a list of spirits and mixers. Facelift for The Oval Room
Ashok Bajaj will close his landmark power restaurant The Oval Room on June 30 for a complete renovation and a change in both the menu direction and the design scheme. To celebrate the restaurant’s ongoing success under executive chef Tony Conte’s leadership, The Oval Room’s most popular dishes will be featured during the month of June. Guests can order two courses at lunch for $25 and three courses at dinner for $50, excluding tax and gratuity. Chef Shuffle
Joe Palma has been tapped as the new executive chef of Bourbon Steak in the Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC. He will take up the position in mid-June. Palma has worked as executive chef at High Cotton in Charleston, South Carolina, and also extensively in Washington, where he was chef de cuisine at Westend Bistro by Eric Ripert. Prior to that, Palma reinforced his fine dining experience with Yannick Cam at Le Paradou, and Michel Richard at Citronelle.
