Chef Michel Richard Chef Michel Richard (Michel Richard Citronelle, Central Michel Richard) will open Michel at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner in early fall 2010. This modern French restaurant will offer dishes such as wild mushroom pie, steak frites, and duck with figs and cinnamon, as well as desserts like coconut vacherin, lemon egg dessert, and chocolate crème brulèe. Kushi Izakaya & Sushi, a family-run izakaya, or Japanese gastropub, features a sushi bar; a robata counter serving kushiyaki (skewers of meat and vegetables); robata dishes from the robata grill; and a comprehensive saké program and Japanese beers. Four Japanese beers are always available on draught and an additional selection of Japanese and other beers round out the menu. The saké program includes more than 60 selections of hot and cold saké featuring filtered or unfiltered saké and small batch labels by the glass or bottle. Rōti Mediterranean Grill has opened its first Washington, DC, location. To celebrate the arrival, Rōti has awarded one lucky person lunch for a year. The menu options include a variety of fire-roasted meats, pitas, couscous, falafel, kebabs, salads and composed Mediterranean plates. Side dishes such as house-made hummus and baba ghanouj are available as well as assorted beverages and desserts. In true Mediterranean style, vegetarian and gluten-free options abound. Things just got sweeter in Rockville Town Center with the opening of CakeDreams, a family-owned and -operated bakery. Custom wedding and event cakes take center stage at CakeDreams, with cupcakes and all-occasion cakes also made every day. Pastry chef and owner Michele Kenno graduated from the pastry arts program, created by former White House pastry chef Roland Mesnier, at L'Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg. Evening Star Café Offers a Healthful Kids’ Menu
Evening Star Café executive chef Will Artley has revamped his kids' menu in order to offer more nutritious options to the families that dine at his neighborhood restaurant. This was inspired by the recent White House efforts to fight the childhood obesity epidemic. The new menu offers more vegetable-laden options, and relies on better-for-you ingredients, including fresh, local produce and whole grain pastas. The restaurant's kid-friendly Sloppy Joe uses ground turkey, juiced carrots, spinach, onions, raw peppers and tomato juice, and is served on a house-made whole-wheat toasted bun. Lasagna uses whole-wheat pasta, a multi-vegetable sauce, low fat cheeses and a pesto made with a variety of greens. Instead of the traditional fried fish sticks, Artley serves a baked fish sandwich of crispy local rockfish served on house-made bread with a tartar sauce made with fat free yogurt, pickles and red onions.
