Chef-owner Richard Sandoval has opened his newest DC restaurant, the pan-Latin steakhouse called Toro Toro. Extravagant lunch, dinner and happy hour menus feature smoked seafood ceviche; half or whole racks of lamb; Brazilian-style skewered meats; and lomo saltado empanadas, to name just a very few treats awaiting the dining public. In addition, the restaurant features a downstairs lounge for late-night entertainment with Latin music and DJs. Lunch Mon.-Fri., Dinner nightly. Chef Jose Andres will open America Eats Tavern at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner Chef José Andrés (Jaleo, Zaytinya, Oyamel Cocina Mexicana, etc.) will open America Eats Tavern at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner. The restaurant will offer a new interpretation of American classics and also recognize native ingredients. This dining concept started out as a year-long temporary restaurant in Washington, D.C., but the Virginia space is intended to be a permanent home. Late-Night Snacks in the Mt. Vernon Area
Recently opened Italian restaurant Alba Osteria is launching a new late-night menu at the in-house bar called Five at Ten. Those looking for late-night bites can indulge in the $5 small plates typical of Italy’s Piedmonte region, prepared by executive chef Roberto Donna and chef de cuisine Amy Brandwein. Five at Ten will also highlight half-priced pizzas like the Capricosa combining mozzarella fior di latte, artichokes, pancetta, pesto, tomato and fresh basil, and the restaurant’s classic Marinara pie with fresh tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and oregano. Five-dollar draught beers, draught wines, and a selection of house cocktails, fusion shots and a $5 glass of Moscato will be offered, too. Seasonal Spring Salads Debut
May is National Salad Month and Blue Duck Tavern executive chef Sebastien Archambault and newly appointed chef de cuisine Daniel Singhofen is celebrating by presenting salads paired with biodynamic wines for weekday lunch. The restaurant’s à la carte menu features the new salads, such as Bibb lettuce with spring green vegetables and goddess dressing; spring baby carrot with fennel, citrus, green onions and olive oil croutons; and green and white asparagus with hen egg and guanciale vinaigrette. Toasting Spring with Exotic Drinks
Through to October, Legal Sea Foods is introducing various new seasonal cocktails. These include the Pineapple Mole Margarita with El Jimador Blanco Tequila, Marie Brizard Crème de Cacao, fresh pineapple, lemon and Xocolatl mole bitters; and the Raspberry Mule, combining Russian Standard Original Vodka, Combier Framboise, Chambord, ginger beer and lime, plus several others. Enjoy Springtime Fresh Strawberries in Gelatos
On the lookout for seasonal fruits, now is the time to enjoy fresh spring strawberries, especially those that are blended into strawberry-flavored gelatos and sorbets created by and sold at Dolcezza. Look for such flavors as Strawberry Tarragon Sorbet, Strawberry Tequila Sorbet and Roasted Strawberry Gelato. Robb Duncan, co-owner of Dolcezza, is debuting other new tastes for spring, too, like Sicilian blood orange sorbet, avocado honey orange sorbet, Georgia butter pecan gelato, and brown butter gelato.
