Good news for Ben’s Chili Bowl fans: its newest location has opened at the B/C terminal of Reagan National Airport. The eatery has fed countless Washingtonians and visitors to the District for more than 55 years, and it has appeared on numerous TV shows, including Oprah and Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. Mixologists and brothers Ari and Micah Wilder, with partners Armin Amin and Adrian Williams, have opened their new cocktail bar. They selected the name “Chaplin” as a way to honor Charlie Chaplin, the British actor and comedian of the silent films era. Cocktails are influenced by the entertainer’s films and include the Gold Rush with Champagne, Amaro Montenegro, peach liqueur, peach bitters and golden flake. Gelato artisan and Dolcezza co-owner Robb Duncan opened a new location. It features a to-go window that allows customers to order gelato and Stumptown Coffee from the street. There is also a sundae bar with a seasonal menu and whipped cream and fresh toppings. The original front entrance door and retail shelving of the building, which was a pharmacy built in 1878, have been maintained. Co Co. Sala Weekday Happy Hours Until Closing
Dubbing this social time as “All Night Long,” Co Co. Sala is opening up the bar for drinks and sweet bites until closing time on Monday to Thursday nights. Signature cocktails are $8, beers $4, and house wines $6. They even offer Prosecco with a chocolate tasting trio for $9. Cuba Libre Celebrates Rum in August
To celebrate rum and the official National Rum Day on August 16, Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar is launching a month-long festival showcasing four new rum flights each day. Look for the Mojito and Ceviche Flight, Mojito Flight, Rum Flight and Ceviche Flight featuring three rums and ceviche dishes. The restaurant stocks 90 premium and flavored rum varieties. In addition, chef-partner Guillermo Pernot will host two interactive cooking classes: Tuesday, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6 at 6:30 p.m. Classes are $59 per person and are limited to 30 guests. Roberto Hernandez has been named the new executive chef at Mio. No stranger to Mio, Hernandez has worked there as a guest chef, showcasing his knowledge of Latin dishes. Influenced by a Cuban grandmother and raised in Puerto Rico, Hernandez has cooked in numerous kitchens, including the Blue Door at Delano hotel in Miami with consulting chef Claude Troisgros. Samuel Kim is the new executive chef at 1789 Restaurant Clyde’s Restaurant Group has appointed Samuel Kim as the new executive chef at 1789 Restaurant, bringing him back to where he first worked under former executive chef Ris Lacoste in the early 2000s. Although he started his career in investment banking in New York City, Kim decided his real passion was in the kitchen. After his time at 1789 Restaurant, Kim worked at The Modern restaurant in New York City. He later served as the executive sous chef at Colicchio & Sons, a position he held since October 2011.
