Openings

It was an old dream of Julien Cote-Colisson and Periche Fernando to create a restaurant where meat from all over the world would be the real star, and that dream has been realized with the opening of Charbon Rouge in the 8th Arrondissement. The menu features charcoal roasted steaks such as Angus Prime T-bone steak from the U.S., Waygu beef entrecôte from New Zealand, and the Charolaise origin rib steak (one kilo for two people). Charbon Rouge, 25, rue Marbeuf, 75008 Paris, 01 40 70 09 99.

La Tour d'Argent Auctions Off Wine & Spirits
La Tour d'Argent sold thousands of bottles of wine and spirits at a two-day auction in Paris. The top big-ticket item, a bottle of Vieux Cognac Le Clos Griffier from 1788, was bought for 25,000 euros. (Proceeds from that particular sale were donated to the Association Petits Princes.) Wines auctioned off included bottles of Vosne-Romanée, Nuits Saint Georges and Château Haut-Brion. Winelovers looking to dine at the famed restaurant need not worry about a diminished supply---the cellar still has more than 400,000 bottles in storage. La Tour d'Argent, 15-17, quai de la Tournelle, 75005 Paris, 01 43 54 23 31.

Pommery have produced a special limited edition of Champagne POP Earth from grapes from sustainable viticulture served in 100 percent recyclable, lighter bottles. Fri. 10am-10pm, Sat.-Thurs. 10am-6pm. Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington House Piccadilly, SW1 London, 020-7300 8000.
