Openings

From the restaurateurs who brought you the West Village gastropub Highlands comes Mary Queen of Scots, located in the old Allen & Delancey space. The menu, not surprisingly, is Scottish-inspired. Mary Queen of Scots, 115 Allen St., New York, NY 10002, 212-460-0915.
 
Welcome to the second incarnation of The John Dory. The restaurant, the creation of Ken Friedman and chef April Bloomfield (who run The Breslin Bar & Dining Room and The Spotted Pig), is now in the Ace Hotel New York and is officially called the John Dory Oyster Bar. The James New York hotel, located in SoHo, has just turned the lights on in its gleaming new rooftop cocktail bar. The guys behind hip restaurant/cocktail bar Hotel Griffou are behind Jimmy, which affords a spectacular view of the city and serves up creative and complex cocktails. Located in the former Bar Blanc space in the West Village, Lowcountry looks south to serve the cuisine of South Carolina and Georgia. Pulled pork sliders, succotash-laced flounder, and a bourbon cider-glazed pork chop are on the menu. The décor is rustic. Lowcountry, 142 W. 10th St., New York, NY 10014, 212-255-2330.
 
Michael White (the man behind Marea and other Italian eateries) has opened up Osteria Morini, meant to capture the true Italian osteria experience, in SoHo. Expect rustic and classic Italian dishes. Osteria Morini, 218 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012, 212-965-8777.

Late Night e Più
The new West Village pizzeria Olio Pizza e Più has begun a late-night menu, which is served nightly from 11:30 p.m.-4 a.m. Menu options include a smattering of pizzas; pasta dishes, such as penne all' arrabiata; as well as snacks like arancini and cured meats. The Feast Debuts in NYC
The Feast, a pop-up restaurant concept featuring celebrity guest chefs and mixologists, is making its debut in NYC. The first theme will be "Roaring ‘20s: Speakeasy & Steakhouse" and will represent a "Jazz Age" dinner party held in a 1920's chophouse. The event opens October 21 and closes October 23, with dinner at 7 p.m. at The Hotel on Rivington. Guest Chef Seamus Mullen's menu includes warm smoked brook trout; dry aged New York strip steak; and a dark chocolate arbequina olive oil mousse. For more information, read GAYOT's blog. Osteria Morini at Midday
Can't get into Michael White's popular new Osteria Morini? You're in luck. The restaurant is now open for lunch, offering pasta dishes and meatier fare. Osteria Morini, 218 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012, 212-965-8777.
 
Cocktail Explosion
The swanky cocktail bar Two E Bar / Lounge, in the recently revamped Pierre hotel, has a list of new cocktails: the Black Friar's Pint blends gin, sherry, cardamom, egg white and a Guinness reduction, while the Cinnamon Atomic Whiskey Sour mixes Jim Beam, lime, bitters, and cinnamon foam to form an explosively good taste. Chef Shuffle
Medhi Brunet-Benkritly, late of Montreal's Au Pied de Cochon, has been named the new chef of Fedora, a West Village restaurant set to reopen in December.
 


Closings

Despite the pull of chef Pichet Ong, The Village Tart has shut down.
 
Cru, the vino mecca, has shut down. In its place on Fifth Ave. and 9th St. will be a New York outpost of famed Las Vegas Thai restaurant Lotus of Siam. Cru, 24 Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10011, no phone.
 
Angelo Sosa's Asian-inspired sandwich shop in Hell's Kitchen, Xie Xie, has closed. He has vowed it will open at a later date and at another location. Xie Xie, 645 Ninth Ave., New York, NY 10036, no phone.
 
Scuderia, the Da Silvano spinoff in the West Village, has shut down.
 
The 40-year-old Umberto's Clam House has shut down.
