François Payard's Gallic-inflected restaurant empire continues to expand with a new cafe on the Upper East Side. FP Pâtisserie serves up sweets, including macarons, truffles, cakes and pastries, plus a few savory items like an Italian croque monsieur sandwich made with prosciutto and fontina cheese. It's the end of the world as we know it. Well, supposedly. And now you can go out in style. Meatpacking restaurant Brasserie Beaumarchais is serving up a special meal on December 21. There will be DJs and the atmosphere will most definitely be festive. And if we all survive, you can come back in the morning for the "Survival" party that starts at brunch. Good vs. EvilChef Eric Ripert and author/TV host Anthony Bourdain teamed up to create --- wait for it --- a chocolate bar. Enter the Good & Evil bar, which is 72 percent Peruvian Nacional Cacao, a hard-to-find cocoa, which should make chocolate lovers very hungry. Acclaimed eatery Gilt, located in the New York Palace hotel, shut down on December 15, 2012. Word on the street is that chef Michel Richard will take over the space (the nineteenth-century Villard Mansion attached to the New York Palace hotel) for a yet-to-be-announced restaurant.
