The new Black Hound, located on the southern tip of Manhattan, serves upscale comfort food in a plush atmosphere. Black Hound, 301 South End Ave., New York, NY 10280, 212-945-0562.
Located inside the Tommy Bahama store, the Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar has a focus on Caribbean fare, particularly seafood. The décor, naturally, sways to the tropical side of things. Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar, 551 Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10017, 212-537-0960.
Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield, the team behind The Spotted Pig, John Dory Oyster Bar and The Breslin Bar & Dining Room, have opened Salvation Taco, a casual spot serving up Mexican fare in the Pod 39 hotel. Salvation Taco, Pod 39, 145 E. 39th St., New York, NY 10016, 212-865-5800.
Located in the West Village, The Marrow is another restaurant from chef Harold Dieterle (Kin Shop, Perilla). This one focuses on the cuisine of Germany and Italy, his family heritage. The Marrow, 99 Bank St., New York, NY 10014, 212-428-6000.
FP Patisserie has opened on Third Avenue François Payard's Gallic-inflected restaurant empire continues to expand with a new cafe on the Upper East Side. FP Pâtisserie serves up sweets, including macarons, truffles, cakes and pastries, plus a few savory items like an Italian croque monsieur sandwich made with prosciutto and fontina cheese. Called a "gastrobar," the new Willow Road serves up a menu by Cru alum Todd MacDonald. The dishes lean towards American comfort food and are offered in the space that once housed The John Dory. Willow Road, 85 Tenth Ave., New York, NY 10011, 646-484-6566.
STIX Mediterranean Grill is a new restaurant that serves food on --- you guessed it --- sticks. In addition to getting chicken, pork, lamb or tuna on a stick, there's also a Greek yogurt bar open all day long. Crete native Nikolaos Stavrakakis is the executive chef. End of the World Party at Brasserie Beaumarchais
It's the end of the world as we know it. Well, supposedly. And now you can go out in style. Meatpacking restaurant Brasserie Beaumarchais is serving up a special meal on December 21. There will be DJs and the atmosphere will most definitely be festive. And if we all survive, you can come back in the morning for the "Survival" party that starts at brunch. Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bakery Cookbook

The Good & Evil bar created by Eric Ripert and Anthony Bourdain Good vs. Evil
Chef Eric Ripert and author/TV host Anthony Bourdain teamed up to create --- wait for it --- a chocolate bar. Enter the Good & Evil bar, which is 72 percent Peruvian Nacional Cacao, a hard-to-find cocoa, which should make chocolate lovers very hungry. But here's the not-so-appetizing part: the cost of each bar is $18. Order one here:

Michael 'Bao' Huynh has already shuttered his West Village Vietnamese restaurant, Bao 111. The chef says he's moving to Vietnam to open up a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Bao 111, 26 Greenwich Ave., New York, NY 10011, no phone.
Gilt closed on December 15, 2012 Acclaimed eatery Gilt, located in the New York Palace hotel, shut down on December 15, 2012. Word on the street is that chef Michel Richard will take over the space (the nineteenth-century Villard Mansion attached to the New York Palace hotel) for a yet-to-be-announced restaurant.
