Surf's up in Hell's Kitchen. The Réunion Surf Bar, brought to you by the erstwhile owners of Mas, is inspired by the island of Réunion (which geography buffs will know is near Madagascar). Brooklyn gastropub ReBar has opened a one-of-a-kind venture: reRun, a gastropub-theater. Located in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn, reRun will show classic and new movies and serve elevated pub grub at the same time. Guests watch the movies from comfy car seats, giving it a drive-in type feel. reRun, 147 Front St., Brooklyn, NY 11201, 718-766-9110.
 
Danny Meyer's ever-expanding Shake Shack empire has now landed in Midtown. This is the third in Manhattan and fifth overall. Shake Shack, 691 Eighth Ave., New York, NY 10036, 646-435-0135.
 
Hello Pasta. Nice to meet you. Pasta in a box is the latest food gimmick to hit New York. Imagine: ten organic pastas that diners can pair with up to 11 Italian-American sauces. It sounds buonissimo. Hello Pasta, 649 Lexington Ave., New York, NY 10022, 212-557-2782.

Letter grades have arrived. Yes, the Los Angeles-style Department of Health signs---starting with "A" for perfect---are starting to pop up on the façades of restaurants. Let's hope your favorite place scores well.
 
Psilakis' Plans for Gus & Gabriel
With the gastropub trend in full swing in New York City, chef Michael Psilakis is making a surprising move: at the end of August he's closing his Upper West Side gastropub, Gus & Gabriel, and moving it to a yet-to-be-determined location. Fatty Crab on the Upper West Side Fatty Martini
On Mondays from noon-11 p.m., the Upper West Side outpost of Fatty Crab offers various drink specials, including martinis for $8 and a selection of wine bottles for $25. Fatty Crab, 2170 Broadway, New York, NY 10024, 212-496-2722.
 
Stulman Village
Gabe Stulman, who owns the West Village restaurant Joseph Leonard, is on his way to opening a few more eateries in the neighborhood. Across the street from his restaurant, he's opening up a yet-to-be-named restaurant and, just announced, he'll be taking over Fedora, the Italian spot on W. 4th and W. 10th Streets.
 
Truffle Hunting
Perbacco, the Italian restaurant in the East Village, has kicked off its Summer of Truffles special menu, including black truffle-dusted tagliolini, a truffle-accented semifreddo, and truffle-topped egg with asparagus chips. Chef Shuffle
Philippe Bertineau, late of Payard Pâtisserie & Bistro and Daniel, has taken over the kitchen duties at Balthazar Restaurant. Balthazar Restaurant, 80 Spring St., New York, NY 10012, 212-965-1414.
 
Chef Paul Gerard becomes the first non-British chef to man the stoves at the SoHo House. He replaces Neil Ferguson.
 
Temperamental but talented chef Ryan Skeen is on the move again. Word in the kitchen is that he's already left his gig at Harlem's new 5 & Diamond and has agreed to a consulting job at West Village teenage girl haunt Sweetiepie.
 


Closings

Five-year-old Greenwich Village restaurant Bellavitae has shut down for good.
 
The Upper West Side restaurant West Branch has closed.
 
Bussaco, an Italian restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn, has shut down.
 
Destino, the Midtown East eatery focusing on the cuisine of southern Italy, has shut down. Destino, 891 First Ave., New York, NY 10022, 212-751-0700.
 
The South Street Seaport outpost of the Italian-American mini-chain, Carmine's, has shut down.
 
The very recently opened West Village wine bar, Pudding Stones, has already shut down. No word about what will go in the space next.
