Executive chef Danny Chen at Rice & Company Asian bistro at the Luxor Hotel & Casino has created two new sushi rolls to usher in the holidays. The "Christmas Santa’s roll" is made with crawfish, sliced cucumber and carrots and topped with seared ahi fluke, shiso leaf, coconut flake and togarashi, and finished with a Thai mayo sauce. The new year will be celebrated with the "roll in the New Year’ sushi roll"---comprised of cream cheese, smoked salmon, mango and topped with shrimp, avocado and caviar and served with spicy mango salsa. Rí Rá Irish Pub at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place is offering a whiskey sampler through the end of the year, featuring four of Ireland and Scotland’s finest imported whiskeys. For $18, guests can try Jameson Whiskey, a Dublin whiskey with a balance of spicy, nutty and vanilla flavors with hints of sweet sherry; Bushmills Whiskey, the world’s oldest whiskey sweetened with a touch of honey and spice; the single malt Lagavulin 16-Year-Old Whiskey, imported from Scotland and aged in oak casks, with intense flavors of dried fruit and peppery smoke; and the Scottish Oban 14-Year-Old Whiskey, which has a taste reminiscent of dried figs and honey. The Pasta Cucina restaurants at Aliante Station and Sunset Station are offering a small bites menu with several selections priced at $4. Items include meatball or chicken Parmesan sliders, mac and cheese with crispy pancetta and Parmesan cheese, five-cheese ravioli, fried artichokes, grilled tomato with fresh mozzarella and crispy petite potatoes served with a blue cheese dipping sauce.
Wynn Las Vegas has introduced a dinner and show package that includes a three-course dinner at Stratta and a ticket to the in-the-round spectacle Le Rêve. The “dinner and a dream” package tickets start at $185 and is being offered through December 31. Stratta is conveniently located just outside the Wynn Theater. Chef Chris Hanmer, owner of The School of Pastry Design in Las Vegas, has won the title of Top Chef from season 2 of Bravo’s "Top Chef: Just Desserts." Hanmer defeated 14 rivals and was rewarded with a grand prize of $100,000. Another Las Vegas chef, Carlos Enriquez, finished fourth and won the $10,000 Quickfire doughnut challenge. Enriquez is the corporate pastry chef for Block 16 Hospitality’s Holsteins, The Barrymore and LBS Burger.
Chef Rick Moonen has introduced a bottomless brunch to the weekend menu at his RM Seafood restaurant. Beginning at 10 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday, the brunch features unlimited servings of dishes such as chorizo and egg wraps, “RM” eggs Benedict, French toast and clam chowder. The cost of the all-you-can-eat brunch is $30, and $4 drink specials are offered for bellinis, mimosas and Bloody Marys; draft pours of Stella Artois and Asahi; and glasses of “RM Red” and “RM White” wine. La Cave Wine & Food Hideaway has increased its wine list to include 50 wines by the glass, as well as 11 different wine flights are presented in pairings of four wines at two ounces each. The flights include selections from the United Stated, France, Italy and Spain, plus varietal-specific flights with Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. Prices range from $15 to $70 per flight.
